Looking back Seed (Lemon) could be said to have started in 1999. Like many guys stuck inland Mikey, El and some friends began making Skateboards for fun in their Dads garage. The first boards were made from MDF and not too successful as a couple of them ended up in pieces when showing how flexible the new decks were!!. With a bit of cash saved from their part time jobs they got hold of some good quality plywood to make their next shapes. The early boards, ranging from 35 to 45 inches rode well when tested on some of the local hills. With the graphics being very much a part of the overall theme, finishes from wood staining to full paint jobs were tried. These early prototypes turned out well despite the slightly primitive production methods!! 2001 and it was time to leave the hills of home and swap them for the waves of Cornwall. A rented house provided a place to eat and sleep and more importantly a garage to make their boards. Mikey added some sign writing to his splity to help promote the Lemon Longboards name. After a few months it was clear that the garage was not the best and the boards started to overflow into the house, it was pretty clear a bigger workshop was needed. During 2002 some boards were placed for sale at a local shop in Newquay and it was here that they first met Bevis, one of the local shapers, he was moving workshops and his old one was up for grabs. They were pleased to take it on, despite the fact it was no more than four walls and a roof, it was damp and leaked like a sieve. It was not all bad as they got to sit in and watch Bevis shaping and glassing the boards, often helping with the odd spray job here and there. Watching Bevis had given the guys some new ideas on construction, so they turned their hands to making composite downhill boards, with the thinking that reduced weight and increase flexibility would give smooth fluid boards. The decks were really quick and responsive and the amount of flex in each board could easily be adjusted during construction to give a different edge to the Lemon range. In 2003 a change of direction came for lemon, with the team really keen to make surfboards of their own to the same quality standards as people had been accustomed to with the Skateboards. The first few boards met and beat their own expectations and those of their friends who had ridden them. Limited edition T-shirts were added to the range and with sales increasing it was time to bite the bullet and give Lemon their full attention. The skateboard making was always known as Lemon longboards, but now with surfboards and clothing added 2006 saw a change of name, so the Seed Surf Company Ltd was born. The Van was re logod and our new online shop was launched on the 5th March 2007.
